Abstract:
For millennia, the main threat to human society that poses malnutrition has been recognized. However, despite significant economic development and scientific innovation, progress in addressing this global problem has been insufficient. Building on an overview of malnutrition in past societies, our framework highlights the power dynamics that characterize modern human food systems on many levels. We focus on the concept of agency, the ability of individuals or organizations to achieve their goals.
Keywords:
Agency; Dual burden of malnutrition; Food systems; Obesity; Social inequality; Stunting; Undernutrition
