Abstract:
This research examines the differentiation strategies of individual firms and the adoption of these strategies by industry giants. The scholars investigate the issues why some firms decide to move first. The case study involve incumbent car manufacturers and the sustainability transition of the industry. The research highlights that car manufacturers attempt to differentiate through a combination of technological and nontechnological differentiators. A first-mover advantage is particularly evident in differentiation using technology.
