Abstract:
The article analyzes the impact of changes in the maritime network on bilateral trade. The results show that the design coefficient for the number of transhipments is negative, which indicates an inverse relationship between transhipments and bilateral exports, confirming that restructuring the maritime supply chain in response to the BRI could significantly improve the value of bilateral exports. In addition, reducing the number of necessary congestions due to reconfiguration of maritime networks with BRI trading partners will improve the structure of the maritime network between countries located along three strategic bottlenecks: the Suez Canal, Panama Canal and Strait of Malacca.
