Abstract:
Digital distraction has become a prominent concern in the world of education, but because laptops are practically indispensable to contemporary schooling, teachers cannot ban them. As an alternative response, they tend to settle on the deployment of classroom rules and policies outlining the appropriate use of information and communication technology (ICT). By way of an empirical example, this article provides an analysis of how teachers use ICT rules alone and jointly with students to make them compliant workers and to domesticate laptops.
