Abstract:
In this study, we discuss what motivates individuals to show prosocial behaviour. We focused on both autonomous (seeing intrinsic value in helping and seeing helpfulness as part of one’s identity) and controlled (seeing helping as a duty and obligation) prosocial motivation, as well as on factors that influence their emergence.

Autonomous motivation; Controlled motivation; Prosocial behavior; Prosocial effort
