Abstract:
Here, we elaborate on the most urgent issues that need to be addressed on the topic of police use of force. We aim to establish how to remediate biases and look into misconceptions about police use of force. In addition, we provide greater insight into when, where, and why force is used by police officers in different countries, and which response model is more appropriate to the situation, norms of morale and international standards.
Keywords:
de-escalation; public safety; racial biases; trust in the police; use of force; use of force continuums
