Abstract:
Even though antibiotics are not effective against SARS-CoV-2, the world has encountered an upward trend in antibiotic use among Covid-19 patients. Researchers express concerns that unnecessary antibiotic prescribing in Covid-19 can accelerate the problem of drug resistance. Here, we discuss the benefits (if any) and potential risks associated with the use of antibiotics in Covid-19 cases. Reasons for why doctors prescribe antibiotics to Covid-19 patients were also highlighted. Based on the results, antibiotics should not be prescribed as a treatment for Covid-19, but they may help to deal with bacterial coinfections.
