Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to study how technology is used in education in relation to people, society and nature in the preschool classroom. According to the Swedish preschool curriculum, students should be given the opportunity to explore, ask questions and discuss technology. Teachers make different choices. This choice influences how students perceive technologies and is called companion meanings. Sound recordings and field recordings of four technology lessons in a preschool classroom were used as data. The analysis of the companions meanings was based on two themes: subject language and subject orientation. The results of this study show that students learn different types of associated meanings: for example, technology is something positive and not problematic. Other associated types gave students the opportunity to reflect on how peoples technical decisions affect nature.
