Abstract:
The research on Technology | Architecture + Design (TAD) contributes to the discourse on methods and methodological approaches generally, and outcomes and limitations in the built environment specifically. But more work is needed. The article exemplifies the idea of the integrity of method when developed from the particularity of a problem tested through a characteristically architectural approach: prototyping. The Research Methodologies cover examples of various methodological types applied to architecture problems on affordances from environmental psychology occupancy evaluation from a social science perspective. At the dawn of the twenty‐first century our increasing awareness of the fungibility of method, process, and product on a spectrum from the physical to the virtual requires more clarity of thought, not less—more methodological clarity; even if the procedures develop from within the questions themselves, the mechanics of the rational project need to remain intact.
