Abstract:
The article provides an expanded analysis of a previously unknown and currently actively discussed manuscript by Oskar Schlemmer, one of the representatives of the Bauhaus movement, revealing the topic of kitsch. This work serves as a response to the contemporary controversy for the author of German and Austrian critics about the aesthetics of kitsch. Also, this work is seen as a response to the social changes of industrialization at the beginning of the twentieth century and the First World War. Schlimmer concentrates on proving the value of kitsch, which at the time was dismissed as bourgeois excess; he points to its connection with the aesthetics of traditional popular mass entertainment such as fairs and circus performances.
