Abstract:
The use of language in comic book narrative is rather unusual; the effectiveness of the application of proverbs requires special circumstances and context associated with a literal graphical reflection of the message. The exploration of paremia in long series of comics, whose authors make extensive use of linguistic means within the graphic novel, provide an excellent medium for exploring the contextual graphical use of paronymy. Cross-linguistic analysis of the use of proverbs in one comic in different languages allows us to evaluate how the visual content nudges and guides the work of the translator using the example of Asterix, one of the most popular French comics.
