Abstract:
This research examines curriculum of literature lessons studying in the People’s Republic of China through visitations to some elementary school grades. Observations of literature lessons in China for students provide the basis of what we feel needs to be addressed for the implementation of literature teaching in lower levels of elementary schools. After giving a brief overview of the development of literature education, this research reports on the present situation in Chinese elementary schools with regards to teacher qualifications, teacher methodology, class sizes and facilities, textbooks, private school lessons and parents’ expect actions. Also discussed, are the main differences between the approaches Chinese primary schools have toward literature education and what teachers should learn from the best teaching practices and teacher qualification policies.
