Abstract:
This research is offered as a timely and scholarly reflection on historical perspectives, theoretical reflections and empirical evidence that contributes to our knowledge and understanding of the development of primary education in China. Although many scholars from around the world have written extensively about education in China, most have focused on the nature and significance of specific aspects or phases of education. This research brings together distinguished Chinese scholars to provide a detailed account of and reflection on the social, cultural, economic and political influences that have shaped the historical and current transformation of primary education in China in all its many dimensions.
