Abstract:
This research addresses the question of how adding a dedicated app to an already challenging picturebook adds complications to the nature of the challenge. The research analyses a historical picturebook fiction based in the pre-conquest history. In itself, it challenges many stereotypes of Indigenous life, and its lavish production values make their own statement in a prosperous Western society. The addition of an app adds both major expense and substantial intellectual complexity to an already thought-provoking project. The relationship between book and app is dynamic in unexpected ways that offer their own challenge to how we think about remediation.
