Abstract:
Using an innovative measure of corporate integrity based on machine learning and text analysis, the article explores the impact of a hostile takeover on corporate integrity. The results show that a more active takeover market improves corporate integrity, supporting the notion that the disciplinary mechanism associated with the takeover market encourages managers to strengthen corporate integrity.
