Abstract:
The article argues that the initial levels of export intensity and geographic dispersion also have long-term effects, and they will be negative. To explore this, we build on arguments regarding the benefits of novelty learning, assimilability, and the cost of time compression. The results show that the higher the firms initial level of export intensity, the slower its rate of change, i.e., it slows down and then declines.
