Abstract:
The article investigates whether the structure of the banking market is related to the volatility of the financial market. The results show that higher banking concentration is positively associated with higher volatility in the equity, corporate bond, and US Treasury markets, but there is no evidence of a link between banking competition and financial market volatility.
