Abstract:
This article explores the relationship between logarithms of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and real gross domestic product (GDP) in China using fractional integration and cointegration methods. The results show that the two series are very constant, their order of integration is about 2, while cointegration tests (using both standard and fractional methods) imply that there is a long-term equilibrium relationship between the two variables in first differences, i.e. . their growth rates are linked to each other in the long run. This indicates the need for environmental policies aimed at reducing emissions during periods of economic growth.
