Abstract:
The article explores the relationship between social capital and the choice of business model for financial cooperatives (Shinkin banks) in Japan. The results show that financial cooperatives in areas with high levels of social capital are more likely to adhere to the traditional lending-oriented financial intermediation model that promotes social and economic development.
