Abstract:
The article examines the payouts of UK listed companies from 1993 to 20XX. Regular dividends remain the dominant channel, but flexible payouts (special dividends and buybacks) have grown and make general payouts more sensitive to earnings. The results show that flexible payouts are used to increase regular dividends: few companies pay only flexible funds, and tests show that they increase rather than replace regular dividends.
