Abstract:
The article analyzes two such favorable surprises - the shortest US recession on record and the prevention of any banking crisis - and a range of research opportunities. The document associates the economic surprise of a short recession with the speed and scope of US stimulus programs during COVID-19 - faster and more extensively than during the global financial crisis (GFC).
