Abstract:
The article examines the relationship between several environmental and socio-economic factors and the degree of GI use at the regional level in the three leading countries in terms of the number of registered GI products: Italy, France and Spain. The results show that conditions of marginality, such as the presence of less favored areas or remoteness of the area, producers attitudes towards cooperation, and past traditions of registering GI products, are the main factors determining the degree of protection sought by GI labeling.
