Abstract:
This article examines the real impact of lending relationships on firms in Italy following the shock of Lehman Brothers default and the sovereign debt crisis in Europe, two distinct crises where, in the latter case, bank solvency was at the center of the economic shock, and in the more minor ones, the former. The results show that after the Lehman default, banks offered better continuous lending to firms with which they had a closer relationship.
