Abstract:
The article explores how some of the practices that are key to human resource management - employee selection and training, performance measurement and rewards, freedom of action and employee empowerment - can be used together to adequately direct managerial attention. Using a static multitasking principal-agent model and standard monotonic comparative statics tools, I make predictions / recommendations for how these methods should be adjusted as firms bet on resilience. These regulations, in particular, include some requirements for outsourcing environmental services and employee training, as well as some implications for public policy.
