Abstract:
Kelly, Manela, and Moreira have proposed an economic model for the choice of words in text. The writer is modeled as a person who first chooses whether to use a word at all (choice problem) and then decides how often the chosen word should be used (positive counting problem). The resulting model results in better sufficient abbreviation of large numbers of words / phrases in the text, as demonstrated by a wide variety of applications using information obtained from the front page of the Wall Street Journal, for example, the regulatory capital ratio of banks last week, and forecasting US macroeconomic variables.
