Abstract:
The article analyzes the political status of Georgia in the assessment of the United States and NATO. The methodology is based on interviews with the US and NATO political elites. The results show that three assessments of Georgias political status have been formulated. In the first two decades, leadership and personal connections increased the likelihood of certain policies being pursued together with material determinants and ideational factors. In the third decade, personal ties disappeared, but the US and NATO elites recognized the structural incentives that influenced their policies.
