Abstract:
The article examines two sides of cooperation in export relations. The results show that the impact of cooperation on exporters market performance is in the shape of an inverted U; at high levels, the impact of collaboration on productivity weakens and becomes negative. Cooperation should primarily influence the behavior of the importer through its specific investments in order to improve the exporters market performance. Moreover, we find that lower levels of interdependence amplify the impact of low to moderate cooperation on the importers specific investment, and that the impact of cooperation on investment is immune to mental distance.
