Abstract:
This article explores loosely coupled digital globalization. The results indicate that a weak relationship perspective, which implies the coexistence of relationships (ties) to maintain responsiveness and looseness (separateness) to maintain distinctness, can provide valuable insights into addressing such external governance challenges in the context of global platforms and ecosystems. We draw and integrate insights from loose coupling and digitalization theory to inform about key contingencies and mechanisms for the external organization of MNEs.
Keywords:
digital globalization; ecosystems; loose coupling; new internalization theory
