Abstract:
The article deals with the impact of the abundance of natural resources or dependence on the accumulation of human capital. The results show that most studies find adverse effects of natural resource abundance or dependence on education and health, but only a small or large minority find mixed or positive effects. The overwhelming reliability of negative results from multiple approaches lends credibility to theories that reliance on resource extraction can negatively impact the quantity or quality of education and health services supply, and demand for advanced education.
