Abstract:
The article examines the economic costs of protests at the micro-company, market sector and aggregate level. The methodology is based on analysis of news articles, online discussions and economic indicators from the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department. The results indicate that the protests may have caused general instability in companies, market sectors and the economy as a whole, as measured by disruptions in production, loss of income, and loss of employment.
