Abstract:
The article develops a general equilibrium model with the aim that change is partially determined by the structure of the economys input-output network. The results show that industrial energy efficiency gains affect total energy consumption through adjustments in factor and product markets, as well as a structural transformation process that alters the way the economy uses and produces energy. The impact of these processes is described using new concepts of energy centralization, which measure the extent to which an industry is implicitly producing or consuming energy.
