Abstract:
The article analyzes the influence of the interaction of information retrieval and the effects of consistency on the adoption of a legal decision. The experiment recruited participants who were free to seek information in three court cases. The results show strong effects of consistency in each study, as the interpretation of the evidence was highly dependent on the current tendency towards justification or condemnation. There was also a tendency for an interaction between both factors, as the effects of consistency were slightly stronger for neutral and accused evidence when systematic information retrieval was possible.
