Abstract:
The science of Russian criminology developed in close connection with criminal law and today it remains embedded in modern legal education. This explains why many criminological studies are focused primarily on the statutory analysis of laws and court statistics of criminal cases. However, there is growing interest in incorporating new criminological theories and methods of complex statistical research in future studies among young Russian criminologists. Today, there is a plethora of criminological work published annually in Russia, most of which is produced by state-funded research centers and universities. The two most popular criminological topics are the interrelated issues of organized crime and corruption––the issues that have continued to plague Russian society since the dissolution of Soviet Union.
