Abstract:
This paper expands the current understanding of the ‘hierarchy of affectedness’ concept coined by Andersen (20XX). We identified differences in the way affected people and outsiders assess crisis impacts. We then explored how a difference in the self-assessment and assessment of outsiders can influence whether hierarchies of affectedness are experienced as positive or negative for disaster affected people.
