Abstract:
This article examines queer activism by offering an empirically grounded discussion of the Rainbow Film Festivals. On the one hand, film festivals foster a context for queer culture and transform queer politics, while on the other hand, their aim is to widen repertoires of acquaintance. In examining the relationship between the film festival and queer communities, (queer) auteurs, and the festival’s curators, the article examines the film festival for its depoliticising tendencies, and analyses the organisation’s performative practices, which may help the industry develop.
Keywords:
depoliticization; film festival; Gender; performative; queer
