Abstract:
The article analyzes the influence of intrauterine influenza infection on the development of mental illnesses. The results show that prenatal exposure to influenza is associated with a slight deterioration in mental health in middle childhood caused by increased internalizing symptoms and an increase in depressive symptoms in middle age in men. Also, prenatal exposure to influenza is associated with a significant increase in mortality, although these effects are mainly due to a 75% increase in the likelihood of stillbirth, with limited evidence of additional disadvantages of survival later in life.
