Abstract:
The study aims to deepen our understanding of the constraints on control adaptation by examining the role of control inseparability, the condition under which partners prior choice of control limits the range and types of subsequent strategic control options. Using a longitudinal analysis of two mature alliances, we study episodes where partners struggled to switch or differentiate alliance control, compromised by emerging risks.
