Abstract:
For households participating in the Supplemental Food Assistance Program (SNAP), food spending increases dramatically after receiving benefits. The results show that the price component of spending is sensitive to receiving benefits: by the beginning of the fourth week of the benefit month, households pay 20% less for food.
