Abstract:
The study compares an updated version of the Economic Pressure on Deforestation Index (IRDef, in Spanish) and an alternative version of this index that includes a modification to the affordability measure (MIRDef, in Spanish). Logistic regressions and geographic information systems were used to model both indices. The modified index (MIRDef) was more sensitive to actual deforestation than the updated version of the index (IRDef), although none of the indexes expected the distribution of high and very high risk categories, not consistent with the actual deforestation that took place.
