Abstract:
Organizations that set and monitor voluntary professional educational standards essential in preparing physicians to deliver safe, high-quality medical care require General Pediatricians (GPeds) to learn various procedures during training. However, GPeds infrequently perform these procedures in practice. We sought to determine how GPeds learned procedures, if they self-reported achieving competence in the required procedures during training, and if they maintained these skills into practice. Through a semi-structured recorded phone interview, we determined why GPeds infrequently performed some procedures.
