Abstract:
The article presents the first sequential series on the long-term distribution of income in Poland, combining data from taxes, household surveys and national accounts. The results show that official survey-based measurements have greatly underestimated the rise in inequality since 1989. The results also highlight the prominent role of capital income in driving the U-shaped evolution of the highest-earning stocks.
